This paper reports recent developments in the generation of forecasts of fixed capital expenditure from the results of the regular investment intentions inquiries conducted by the UK Department of Industry. In particular it demonstrates the value of knowing the price basis and expectations incor- porated in firms' stated intentions, reports evidence on these and utilizes this evidence in the analysis of the inquiry results
